Overview

In this 4 day tour which is one of the most impressive treks in Cusco, will allow us to see incredible landscapes, imposing snow-capped peaks, waterfalls, rivers and small villages, it is nature in its purest form. This trekking route is ideal for those who want to reach Machu Picchu by a different and authentic way, getting closer to the Andean communities and away from the noise. Tour Detail

Shared trek: Please note, that you may meet many people from other groups who booked the same trek activity with us and coincided with you on the same departure day and join us.

Meals included: 3 lunches, 3 dinners, 3 breakfasts. Including vegetarian and vegan options – just let us know in advance.

Accommodation: SOLO travelers joining group trips are paired in twin or in a group in a multi-share dorm in a country lodge with someone of the same sex for the duration of the activity.

Service level: Standard. Private transportation, local bus and train.

Itinerary

Day 1Cusco - Mollepata - Soraypampa

Our pick up will start between 04:00 am – 04.50 am. We will be arriving at any time at your hotel in Cusco, so please be always ready to leave.

Once we have all our travelers on board the bus with us, we will continue to Mollepata, which is located at 2900 masl / 9514ft. There we will have breakfast and then we will head towards Marcocasa, a town from which we will start our hike until we reach Soraypampa, where we will stop for lunch.

After lunch we will continue to the beautiful Humantay Lagoon, there we will enjoy incredible views of the lagoon with the snow in the background, creating a landscape that is considered one of the most beautiful of the Andes. Then, we will get back to the Soraypampa camp, where we will have dinner and rest until the next morning.

Day 2Soraypampa – Soyrococha – Huayracmachay - Colpapampa

Today we will get up early and after breakfast, we will begin the ascend to the Salkantay pass, which is located at 4750 masl / 15583ft, the highest point of the entire route, from where we can observe the beautiful valleys and the imposing snowy peaks.

Then we will begin our descend to the town of Huayracmachay; where we will have time to eat and regain strength to continue to our campsite in Colpapampa, where we will have dinner and spend the night.

Day 3Colpapampa - Playa Sahuayaco – Hidroelectric - Aguas Calientes

We will get up early and after breakfast, we will begin our walk to the small town of La Playa Sahuayaco through the Santa Teresa Valley. During the walk we will be in full contact with nature, we will see rivers, waterfalls, beautiful wild orchids, and coffee and banana plantations among others. After lunch, a private bus will take us to Santa Teresa where we will take transport to Hydroelectric ,here we will continue on foot for another 3 hours following the train rail until reaching Aguas Calientes.

Once in Aguas Calientes, you will have free time before dinner to rest or walk through the town. Tonight we will stay in our hostel with a private room and bathroom. We will go to bed early because the next day one of the most special moments of our tour, visit the imposing fortress of Machu Picchu, awaits us.

Day 4Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Ollantaytambo - Cusco

Today we will get up very early (5 am) to start the fourth and final day of the trek to Salkantay with a walk of approximately 1 hour and a half to Machu Picchu. We will enjoy a 2-hour guided tour of the citadel, then we will have free time to explore it on our own and be able to calmly see the citadel.

At the end of the visit, we will return to Aguas Calientes (if you want you can return by bus to avoid the walk, buying the ticket there for 12 USD per way), we will have time to have lunch; and then, take the train that will take us to Ollantaytambo, where there will be waiting our bus that will take us to Cusco.

Changes & Cancellations Policy

Cancellation & Changes to this tour:

*NO SHOWS & CANCELLATIONS:If you cancel 1 day prior to the tour before 5:00pm (Peru time), a 10% administration fee will apply. After this time, there’s a 100% no-show & cancelation fee.

*CHANGES: Any changes to the tour date MUST be done before 5:00pm (Peru time) 1 day prior to the tour.
